1. How will you use the artwork?
Choose the option that best describes your situation. Private use without profit excludes commercial uses.
Important: A private license applies only to strictly private use without any profit. Even an Instagram account that occasionally advertises something is used commercially and requires a commercial license.
2. Which profit level applies to you?
Choose your usage context first.
3. Commercial online posts
For example, social media and other online publications.

4. Commercial use for a project
For example, book covers, character cards, bookmarks, book illustrations or cover illustrations. A print run can be split across products, such as 1,000 books plus 4,000 promotional items within a total run of 5,000.

5. Merchandise license
Merchandise here means a product intended to promote sales, usually a useful everyday item featuring a brand identity. Bookmarks and character cards that are part of a book project do not count as merchandise. Pens or badges for an association do.

What do the usage options mean?
Private and commercial use
Private use is intended solely for your own non-commercial purposes. If an image supports advertising, generates income, or is used for business or publishing, choose a commercial usage context. If you are unsure, please ask before using it.
Online posts
This option covers commercial online publications, such as social media posts. The free option requires crediting kritzelpixel.de; an additional fee applies if no credit is given. “Not needed” means no commercial online posts.
Project print run and allocation
The project print run is the total number of units in which the illustration is used within the selected project. An approved print run may be split across several parts of that project. Merchandise is separate and requires the appropriate merchandise option.
Merchandise
Merchandise means products intended to promote sales, often useful everyday items featuring a brand identity. Book-related bookmarks and character cards are part of the book project and do not count as merchandise; association badges or pens do. Media and merchandise licenses are treated separately: a book illustration may have a low license fee, while using the same image in publisher advertising requires an extended license that may cost more.
Multiple parties
If the use is part of a larger license package involving multiple parties, an estimated additional €50 is included to account for potential legal work. The specific rights of each party must be set out in the offer or agreement.
To expensive?
Save up to 90% on 3 or more commissions – and even 100% on 5 or more
For 3–5 commissions a year, I charge a flat-rate licence fee of 100 euros.
If you place more than 5 commissions within a year, the licence fees are waived entirely.
The flat-rate licence covers all commissions within the terms of the agreement.
The flat-rate agreement must be negotiated in advance and cannot apply retrospectively.
This flat-rate licence includes all rights of use (except for resale to stock photo sites or image databases).
Exclusive rights of use
An illustration for a book includes a licence for the title and for its use within the book project in relation to that title; it also applies to a translation of the book and may therefore be passed on to other publishers or departments.
Print and media licences are unlimited.
Merchandise licences are negotiable and, depending on the intended use, may also be unlimited.
The licence applies to the specific project.
